WALLACE, A. R. (1858): On the tendency of varieties to depart indefinitely from the original type. Instability of Varieties supposed to prove the permanent distinctness of Species. This selection-theory essay was written at Ternate, February, 1858, without realizing that Darwin is working on the same theory. The joint paper of A. R. Wallace and Ch. Darwin was read before the Royal Society in 1858, Wallace's essay published that year.
